Wheatley is located amid parks and conservation areas -- all within a few minutes' drive. Accessible year round, these natural preserves are popular with tourists and residents alike.
Two Creeks Conservation Area
With 85 acres and 15 kilometres of hiking and biking trails, Two Creeks Conservation Area, just north of Wheatley on Kent Road 1, has something to offer everyone, from weekend walkers to hardcore mountain bike riders to birders. There's even a dog sledder who uses the grounds when the snow flies.
From June to September, the natural amphitheatre is the site of Sunday night concerts. And a Memorial Grove dedicated to commemorating loved ones or special events provides a splendid setting for quiet contemplation.

Wheatley Provincial Park
This secluded estuary on Lake Erie shelters many creatures. Migrating birds stop here, turtles sun on logs and herons wade in the shallow creeks. You can watch for birds in the Carolinian forest and camp out under oak and hickory trees.
There are 220 campsites, many with electrical service, in four separate campgrounds adjacent to creeks that run through the park. A number of campsites have water frontage. Access is from Klondyke Road.

Kopegaron Woods
Named for Peter, Gary and Ron Koop by family matriarch Elsa, who donated the land to the Essex Region Conservation Authority, Kopegaron Woods is a five-minute drive west of Wheatley on Talbot Trail.
Kopegaron Woods Conservation Area is renowned for its spring wildflowers, and is a great place for photographers to hone their skills in the brilliant sea of colour that lines the trails. Boardwalk trails meander through this conservation area, and beautiful spring warblers can often be spotted resting before continuing their flight north in spring.

Hillman Marsh
With five kilometres of trails around this rare marshland habitat on Lake Erie, Hillman Marsh, about 10 minutes southwest of Wheatley, draws wildlife and people from both near and far.
The nature centre is open at limited times during the spring with excellent educational displays about flora and fauna typical to the area.
Hillman Marsh is used to educate students about conserving our environment through Conservation Education Field Studies.

Point Pelee National Park
Point Pelee National Park is known internationally by birdwatchers and nature lovers. Located 20 minutes southwest of Wheatley, it is one of Canada's smallest national parks, and yet this tiny green oasis attracts approximately 300,000 visitors each year.
From picnic areas to the Visitor Centre, to famous vistas like the Tip and the Marsh Boardwalk, it's all designed to ensure a memorable experience and to preserve the park's natural environment. One of its most important roles is teaching the value of nature to students from around the region.
